Oil

Remove as much of the stain as you can by dabbing the stain with a white paper towel.

Pour rubbing alcohol onto a clean white cloth or paper towel.

Do not pour the alcohol directly onto the stain as the alcohol can penetrate into the backing of the carpet and destroy the latex bond.

If the spot runs deep into the pile, use a blotting motion until the spot is removed or no color is transferred to the cloth.

If the spot is on the surface only, rub in one direction. Never use a circular motion to remove the spot as this may destroy the texture.

If the stain is still persistent, mix 1/4 teaspoon of a clear hand or dish washing detergent (which does not contain bleach or lanolin) with 1 quart of water. Use a dabbing motion to work the detergent into the stain. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent solution and blotting with a white paper towel until spot is removed.

Using a spray bottle, rinse with water and blot the area to remove excess moisture.

Spray lightly with water, do not blot this time; apply pad of paper towels and brick and allow to dry.

If  some part of the stain is remaining on the carpet and blotting is not removing it, then moisten the fiber in the stained area with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Let it sit on it for an hour. Blot and repeat until carpet is stain free. Light will cause peroxide to change back to water so no rinsing is necessary.

Nail Polish

October 6th, 2009

Blot the spill with a white paper towel. If the stain is dry, remove what you can by using a dull knife.

Remove as much of the nail polish as possible using a spoon or dull knife. Using a non-oil based nail polish remover, gently rub a clean white towel on the spot. Be sure to rub in one direction only. Continue until spot is removed. Do not let the nail polish remover seep into the latex backing of the carpet.
